Single Agenda Item: Planning the Parish Peace Training Weekend, jointly sponsored with the Salem Fellowship of Reconciliation organization.

Janet Brown led the discussion. Assignments were made. Ruth Russell will serve as the Parish Coordinator, Aba Gayle will serve as the Fellowship of Reconciliation Coordinator. Violet Carter will serve as the Food Coordinator. Several tasks were discussed and assigned to each Coordinator. Janet will work with Gus Frederick to create needed advertizement material including a brochure, and flyer.

The only P&J projects that the Commission will deal with in the next few months will be to continue to work with the Queens of Peace on the "Women Witnesses Series" and now the Peace Training Weekend scheduled for January 18th ,19th and 20th, 2008. More than one monthly meeting will be needed to complete work on the Peace Training Weekend. Our next planning meeting on this topic will be held Monday November 12, 1:00 pm at Violet Carter’s home. Any parishioner interested in assisting with the Peace Training Weekend is welcome to attend this meeting. Call Violet Carter at 503-364-6823 for directions.

The meeting closed with a prayer.

Queen of Peace Parish Peace & Justice Purpose Statement

bullet

Educate ourselves and our parish about the biblical and traditional basis for Catholic Social Teaching and its application in modem life and the life of the parish itself.

bullet

Promote those attitudes when offering charitable service that reflect our communion with the whole human family in the Love of Christ. This will be accomplished by addressing root causes of need through public forums and other appropriate activities. Works of charity should be offered as "loving our neighbor as ourselves".

bullet

Work within and beyond our own community for a more just and peaceful world and for the healing of God's creation; by both supporting existing parish ministries and disseminating information and tools so that parishioners can better protect our earth.

Please Join us the first Sunday of each month, 9:45 AM at the parish office. Visitors and new members are always welcome!
