October 2, 2007 To: Youth (Grades 9-12) interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in Spring, 2008 This letter is to invite you to be part of our Confirmation Preparation for the reception of the Sacrament in Spring, 2008. Our first preparation session will be Sunday, October 7th, from 9:45-10:45am in the Youth Center, for all interested 9th-12th graders and their parents. You do not have to have a sponsor at this time, but if you do, they are also invited. The United States Bishops Directive for Age of Confirmation states the Sacrament should be received by the age of 16. Therefore all freshman and sophomores are invited and strongly encouraged to participate in the preparation process and to receive the Sacrament by their sophomore year. Older youth who have not been confirmed are also invited and strongly encouraged to receive the Sacrament. Candidates are expected to participate in our Whole Community Faith Formation sessions beginning Sunday September 16th from 9:45-10:45am. The content of these sessions will be relevant to your preparation, and cover the basic tenants of our faith. Your participation will be a positive sign to other youth and adults, encouraging them in their faith growth as well. If you are interested in being confirmed but have not been baptized or received your First Communion, please contact us immediately as additional preparation will be needed. The sacrament will be celebrated during the Easter Season in April or May. By request of Archbishop Vlazny, we will celebrate the sacrament with other parishes of our vicariate (St. Vincent de Paul Church, and St. Edward Church). If you are interested in preparing for this sacrament please make plans to attend the above sessions. If you are unable to attend, please contact Cheri Posedel (cheri@queenofpeacesalem.org) or Marty Gay (marty@queenofpeacesalem.org) at 503-364-7202, ext. 15.
